California Wine Country Shake-Up: Conglomerate off-loads mainstream brands, keeps premium portfolio

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Constellation Brands announced a significant shift in its wine and spirits strategy, divesting its mainstream wine brands to The Wine Group based in Livermore, Calif. The deal, expected to close in fiscal year 2026, includes brands like Woodbridge and Meiomi, along with associated vineyards and facilities.

The company will retain a premium portfolio, focusing on higher-growth, higher-margin wines priced $15 and above, such as Robert Mondavi Winery, Schrader, and Kim Crawford. This move is part of Constellation’s strategy to align with evolving consumer preferences for premium products and craft spirits like High West whiskey and Casa Noble tequila.
