An unfortunate event shook the Hayward community yesterday as a vehicle collided with a motorized bicycle, resulting in a fatality. According to a news release from the City of Hayward, the incident occurred around 10:19 a.m. near Depot Road and Adrian Avenue.
Hayward Police swiftly responded to the site of the accident and found the parties still present. The driver, a 35-year-old man not from Hayward, was uninjured and cooperated to provide a statement on the collision. Authorities have decided not to release his identity at this stage. The cyclist, a 64-year-old Hayward resident, was discovered gravely wounded and, despite a rapid medical response, tragically passed away at the hospital. Officials have also withheld his identity, pending notification to relatives and formal identification by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.
The ongoing investigation has so far suggested neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in this tragic event, the Hayward Police Department notes.
