Castro Valley History Museum Looking for a Home

While Castro Valley’s namesake began with the 1840 land grant given to Guillermo Castro, the town has not had an official history museum… that is, until now… and its members are looking for a permanent home.

A small but eager group of historians has established the Castro Valley History Museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose goal is to preserve, protect, and share the area’s history. The group debuted during the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade on May 10 and will continue to celebrate Castro Valley’s legacy as one of the chicken capitals of the world and its history in ranching, farming, and community development.

Currently, the historical societies of Hayward and San Leandro manage Castro Valley’s written, visual, and auditory history. Various Castro Valley history enthusiasts have their own collections. Books, newspaper clippings, photos, and even some larger memorabilia are expected to be included in the museum’s future site for people to enjoy…
