Man killed in crash on Berkeley freeway Sunday morning

An Alameda man was killed when the minivan he was driving went off Interstate 80 near Ashby Avenue and hit a guardrail Sunday morning.

The California Highway Patrol first got a call on the crash at 4:41 a.m., said Officer Adib Zeid, a spokesperson for the agency. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office’s Coroner’s Bureau identified the driver as 35-year-old Abdul Kamraan.

Kamraan was headed eastbound when the 2023 Toyota Sienna he was driving went off the road, Zeib said. Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, and there were no immediate indications that Kamraan was traveling too fast…
