A new scam is preying on drivers in Oakland, where fake parking citations have been slipped onto windshields in the Uptown and downtown neighborhoods, tricking some residents into paying bogus fines.
The phony tickets, which mimic official city citations, have been spotted around Broadway and 24th Street, near the Oakland YMCA. They include a QR code directing people to a fraudulent payment website.

At least a few drivers reported losing $74 to the scheme, according to YMCA officials.
“These tickets are not issued from the City of Oakland or from the Y — they’re part of a scam,” the YMCA said in a recent alert to its members obtained by Oaklandside, which first reported the scam. “If you find one on your car, please know it’s not legitimate and you don’t need to pay it.”…
