Oakland Animal Services (OAS) is sounding the alarm because it’s over capacity with dogs. On social media, OAS is urging people to come in and adopt dogs.
According to OAS director Joe DeVries, OAS has received more than 90 dogs over the past 11 days, including a litter of 15 puppies. The shelter’s maximum capacity for dogs is 65, and currently, they have 90 in their care, so resources are stretched thin.
DeVries couldn’t say exactly why the shelter is seeing this surge in people surrendering animals, but he said there can be waves where the shelter sees a big influx like this…
