Beloved tiger Lola euthanized at Oakland Zoo after severe infection

(KRON) — The Oakland Zoo is mourning the loss of one of its beloved tigers. On Friday, zoo officials announced that Lola was euthanized after a severe infection spread throughout her body.

Lola arrived at the Oakland Zoo in June 2022 after she and three other tigers were rescued from an abandoned roadside zoo in Oklahoma. Keeper Nathaniel said that Lola was “an unfortunate product of the cub-petting industry” and could “only guess what untold horrors she has had to endure.”

Staff at the zoo first noticed that Lola was limping two weeks ago. After her initial treatment, officials said Lola’s condition continued to worsen, and veterinarians suspected that there was a foreign body lodged inside her front right paw…
