Man arrested in Bay Area homicide cold case

(KRON) — A man was arrested on Jan. 13 in connection to a 2012 homicide in San Jose, police announced Monday.

The suspect, Dario Trevino, was recently identified as the person responsible for shooting a man to death at a business on the 1100 block of Murphy Avenue during the early morning hours of Feb. 26, 2012, police said. Trevino was arrested in the city of Roseville after homicide detectives connected him to the crime nearly 14 years later.

At the scene of the 2012 shooting, officers found a woman who had been assaulted, three men with gunshot wounds. Two of the gunshot victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The third man was taken to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The shooter in the case remained unknown to police until 2017, when police seized a gun in an unrelated shooting, which linked Trevino to the case, police said.

Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen commented on the arrest, saying that “cold cases aren’t always solved with DNA. Sometimes, it just takes good, old-fashioned tenacity and teamwork to get justice.”
