San Ramon, California – A flurry of more than 30 earthquakes struck near this East Bay suburb on Monday, including a magnitude 4.2 temblor that sent ripples across the San Francisco Bay Area.[1]
Monday’s Seismic Barrage
The strongest shake hit at 7:01 a.m., registering 4.2 in magnitude southeast of San Ramon at a depth of about 9 kilometers. Just 34 minutes earlier, a 3.8-magnitude quake rocked the same region. Smaller events followed throughout the day, including magnitudes 3.1, 3.0, and 2.9 in the afternoon.[1]
No major injuries or structural damage emerged from the swarm, though residents reported items tumbling from shelves at local stores and pools rippling during swims. BART slowed trains for safety checks, and city officials monitored the situation closely. San Ramon Mayor Mark Armstrong confirmed the community remained prepared.[1]
Roots in a Months-Long Unrest
This episode built on seismic activity that began in November 2025, when a magnitude 3.8 quake kicked off the sequence near the Pleasanton Fault. A magnitude 4.0 event struck on December 19, marking the prior high point. Reports tallied 87 quakes above magnitude 2.0 through December alone, with activity pulsing in bursts.[2][3]…
