Alysa Liu’s hometown of Oakland is planning a city-wide celebration to honor the figure skater’s achievement at the Olympics.
Liu captured two gold medals at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, winning one as part of the U.S. figure skating team and another in the women’s singles competition.
Her singles triumph marked the first Olympic gold in the event for an American woman since 2002, and she became the first U.S. woman to reach the podium in that discipline since 2006.
