There was some confusion about United States figure skater Alysa Liu’s hometown. Several outlets had her listed as a native of Richmond, California. The fact, however, is that the 20-year-old grew up in Oakland.
Liu had to address the misconception. The 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics star acknowledged that Richmond was one of her stops growing up. Her family moved several times within the Bay Area when she was young, but Liu made it clear that she considers Oakland her home.
Similarly, the City of Oakland is extremely proud of Liu and all that she achieved. This includes most recently her two gold medals in the 2026 Winter Games.
