On Tuesday, Antioch turned chaotic when police responded to reports of gunfire and found an 18-year-old man down in a parking lot on the 600 block of Wilbur Avenue. Officers jumped in immediately with life-saving aid before Contra Costa County Fire personnel arrived and rushed him to a nearby trauma center. The victim remains in critical condition as detectives work to figure out who pulled the trigger and why.
According to the Antioch Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 11:22 PM and arrived to find the 18-year-old suffering from two gunshot wounds. They provided first aid on the asphalt until Contra Costa County Fire crews took over and transported him to a local trauma center. Police said they locked down the area and collected evidence scattered around the scene.
Wilbur Avenue Keeps Landing In The Crime Logs
This stretch of Wilbur Avenue has seen more flashing lights than anyone living nearby would like. Earlier this year, a late-night shooting in January on the same 600 block left a 29-year-old man wounded. City calls-for-service logs also show several assaults with a firearm entries along Wilbur this winter, according to City of Antioch records.
