Oakland, California — Drivers in Oakland are now facing fines as the city’s automated speed camera program officially moves into its enforcement phase. After several weeks of issuing warnings, officials confirmed that speeding citations began Sunday through Oakland’s automated speed camera system.
The cameras were first activated earlier this year, but the city initially provided a grace period during which drivers received warnings instead of fines. With that period now over, drivers caught speeding will begin receiving tickets by mail.
