SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — As current ridership numbers continue to be ineffective in squaring up BART’s massive operating budget deficit, agency officials appear to be enthusiastic about stepping up their business as parking lot operators.
The Bay Area Rapid Transit District wrote at length in a news release issued Wednesday about the prospect of generating more revenue from renting out parking lot spaces at its stations to non-riders. According to BART, the agency has generated $6 million since the pandemic in such a venture.
“BART began offering select parking lots to non-BART riders to generate new revenue to help address its FY27 $376M operating budget deficit brought on by remote work,” the release stated. “To streamline the process and attract more business, BART recently launched a new online portal for those looking to rent at least 25 spaces for six months or more.”…
