The application period for the 2026
Through the Wes McClure Scholarship program, CCMF awards three $2,500 scholarships to graduate students enrolled at any California college or university who are pursuing — or already working in — a career in local government. The scholarship honors Wes McClure, who served as San Leandro’s city manager for 28 years. This award celebrates his outstanding contributions to the city management profession, the League of California Cities and the state of California.
Eligible Wes McClure Scholarship applicants may apply by including all the elements listed below in order to be considered for a scholarship:
- A cover letter indicating the educational institution you are attending (or will be attending), the number of educational credits attained to date (if any), current GPA, degrees awarded (if any), colleges and universities attended (if any) and your contact information (including email address).
- A short essay (under 750 words) explaining why you are interested in a career in local government, the type of local government work you would like to pursue upon graduation and any educational/work/volunteer experience you have undertaken in pursuit of this type of career.
- Two (2) reference letters from those who can speak to your interest in pursuing a career in local government.

CCMF launched the Judy L. Kelsey Memorial Fund award program in summer 2020. Each year, the program awards $5,000 each to two California cities or towns to fund summer internships.
