Crockett Firefighters Rush In As Contra Costa Deputies Handle Secretive Call

The Crockett-Carquinez Fire Department said yesterday it was on scene in Crockett helping the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office with an emergency incident, but the agency is keeping details tight for now. In a short public notice, the department declined to describe what was happening and told anyone with questions to call the sheriff, not the firehouse.

Post directs questions to the sheriff

According to a Facebook update from the Crockett-Carquinez Fire Department, crews were assisting the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. The department added that both public and media inquiries should go through the sheriff’s office and offered no information about the type of incident, how long crews had been there, or how many responders were involved.

Small department, routine coordination

The Crockett-Carquinez Fire Protection District is a small, largely volunteer agency that covers Crockett and nearby Port Costa. Law enforcement in the unincorporated town is handled by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, as the town’s emergency-services page explains. A county municipal service review also describes how local fire agencies and the sheriff’s office routinely work side by side when an incident needs both medical or fire response and sheriff’s resources.

Area has seen multi-agency responses before

The Carquinez Strait area has a history of drawing in multiple agencies when something goes wrong. In 2019, the NuStar Energy tank fire triggered shelter-in-place orders and temporary closures on Interstate 80.
