International Boulevard through Fruitvale into Deep East Oakland got a nickname for a reason. They call it the Comida Corridor, per Visit Oakland, and it’s one of the densest stretches of family-run Mexican street food anywhere in the Bay. These are multi-generation trucks. Immigrant-owned. Some have been grinding the same lot for 35 years. If you’re trying to eat well in Oakland, start here.
1. Taquería El Paisa (Fruitvale) — 4610 International Blvd.
Michelin Bib Gourmand. The Michelin Guide literally calls it “an Oakland institution… widely hailed as the temple of tacos.” Suadero, tripas, cabeza, lengua, carnitas, smoked-style chorizo — doubled yellow corn tortillas, full salsa bar. Fifteen-minute walk from Fruitvale BART. Open daily 9 AM to 9 PM.
2. Tacos Sinaloa (Fruitvale) — 2138 International Blvd.
3. La Parrilla Loca (Deep East Oakland) — 9829 San Leandro St.
Tijuana-style. Hand-carved trompo al pastor over a wood block, mesquite-grilled carne asada. SFGate said the tacos “rival Los Angeles’ best.” The truck went cashless after five masked suspects robbed it at gunpoint in February 2024. The owner spoke publicly about her team’s fear going back to work. Support this place…
