Tom Hardys MobLand Behavior Sparks On-Set Clash with Helen Mirren

Additional Coverage:

Reports have surfaced that Tom Hardy experienced significant tensions with the cast and crew of his Paramount Plus series, MobLand.

The 48-year-old actor allegedly spent extended periods refusing to leave his trailer during filming, causing delays and leaving co-stars like Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren waiting on set. According to sources cited by Hollywood Reporter, this behavior was seen as a “power play” that could seriously damage Hardy’s career prospects.

Hardy, who portrayed the show’s main character Harry Da Souza, is rumored to have been removed from the series. His reported clashes extended to veteran actress Helen Mirren, who plays Maeve Harrigan. Mirren reportedly grew increasingly frustrated with Hardy’s attitude, citing his habitual lateness and a demeanor she described as “swaggering around like a king,” which she found irritating.

In addition to tensions with Mirren, Hardy’s disagreements reportedly involved executive producer Jez Butterworth and the production company 101 Studios. As of now, MobLand has not been confirmed for a third season, and no release date has been announced for its second season.

Hardy’s reputation for being difficult on set is not new. Director George Miller, who worked with him on Mad Max: Fury Road, once remarked on Hardy’s challenging personality, saying the actor had to be coaxed out of his trailer despite his undeniable talent. Miller also noted the contrast with co-star Charlize Theron, who was known for her discipline and punctuality during filming.

The dynamic between Hardy and Theron even mirrored their characters’ relationship in the film, with Miller suggesting their off-screen tension reflected the need for cooperation to survive. He cautioned against excusing disruptive behavior simply because it comes with strong performances.

Similarly, actor Patrick Stewart has described Hardy in his memoir as a solitary figure who kept to himself on set, rarely engaging with others and spending much of his downtime with his girlfriend in his trailer.

These accounts paint a complex picture of a gifted but sometimes difficult actor whose behavior has caused friction in high-profile productions.
