Kentucky Man Who Targeted Homeless Killed in Police Shootout

A man suspected of brutally attacking and mutilating a homeless individual in Kentucky was fatally shot during a police encounter, authorities confirmed.

Michael Hristov came under scrutiny after a December 2025 Reddit post warned of someone targeting homeless people in the area. That same month, Michael Howard was found murdered in a homeless encampment, with his body mutilated and some toes missing. Hristov is also believed to have attempted to kill another homeless person by stabbing them that month.

Investigators linked Hristov to the crimes after reviewing footage from an earlier non-fatal stabbing. This led to warrants being issued for his residence and possessions.

Law enforcement discovered Hristov had a disturbing fascination with serial killers, a history of animal abuse, and expressed admiration for mass shooters. Reports also indicated he had previously spoken about wanting to hunt homeless individuals.

During a search, officers recovered a severed toe believed to belong to Howard, along with blood evidence. When police served the search warrant at Hristov’s home, a SWAT team tried to negotiate peacefully, but he opened fire, prompting officers to return fire and kill him.

Deputy Chief Emily McKinney of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department stated that Hristov had previously been investigated by federal authorities for threats. Officials are examining whether he may be connected to other attacks on homeless people in the region.

In a separate Louisville incident, a mother’s hidden camera exposed abuse of her disabled son at school, resulting in charges against a teacher. Tiphanee Lee, mother of Semaj’ Lee, an autistic student at Field Elementary, installed a camera in her son’s hair after noticing troubling changes in his behavior. The footage captured interactions she described as “unacceptable,” showing her son frightened and overwhelmed.

“I ordered a camera to be my son’s eyes, his ears, his voice,” Tiphanee said, underscoring the painful reality no parent should have to face.
