Bret Michaels Withdraws from Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 Festival Amid Growing Artist Departures

Bret Michaels, the iconic frontman of Poison, has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Freedom 250 festival scheduled for July 3 in Washington D.C. Michaels was set to be the headlining musical act but cited concerns over security and the increasingly politicized nature of the event as reasons for his decision.

In a statement posted on Instagram in the early hours of May 29, Michaels explained that he initially saw the festival as an opportunity to honor veterans, active military personnel, first responders, teachers, and hardworking Americans. However, he expressed disappointment that the event’s atmosphere had shifted to become “much more divisive” than he had originally agreed to be part of.

Michaels also highlighted safety concerns for himself, his band, crew, and fans, referencing “unfounded and unforgivable” threats that contributed to his choice to step away. Emphasizing that his decision was not politically motivated, he said it was about staying true to his values and taking threats seriously.

Reflecting on his long-standing support for freedom of speech and veterans, Michaels reassured fans of his continued commitment to these causes, adding, “In the meantime, we’ll keep the Live and Amplified Tour rocking, and I look forward to seeing you all out on the road soon.”

The news comes amid a broader wave of artists withdrawing from the festival, raising questions about the event’s viability. Fans took to social media to voice their support for Michaels’ decision, praising his stance and expressing gratitude for his ongoing support of veterans and service members.

One fan commented, “Great decision to stay away from the hateful and divisive politics coming out of the White House now.” Another added, “As a lifelong Poison fan, I appreciate your support of our veterans and active military service members and the freedoms they have always fought for us.”

Support also came from veterans and family members, with one Marine Corps veteran expressing commendation and another fan, married to a veteran, criticizing the current administration’s handling of veterans’ benefits. Overall, Michaels’ choice has resonated positively with many who appreciate his principled stand amid a turbulent political backdrop.
