A Brooklyn mother and her daughter were found dead in a tragic incident that has left neighbors shaken. Olga Bracero, 59, and her 23-year-old daughter, Kayla Wilson, were discovered with multiple stab wounds in their Park Slope home on Saturday evening. Authorities believe Wilson fatally stabbed her mother before taking her own life.
Deshawn Jackson, a neighbor who had grown close to the family, shared the heartbreaking story with the New York Post. He recounted how Bracero had reached out to him multiple times, pleading for help with her daughter, who was struggling with severe mental health issues believed to be linked to drug use. According to Jackson, Bracero described Kayla as “fighting demons” and hearing voices that urged her to do harmful things.
Kayla Wilson had reportedly been diagnosed with schizophrenia and had spent time in hospitals receiving treatment. Jackson recalled that after a troubling trip to Jamaica, Kayla’s behavior changed drastically.
“The mother told me she smoked some bad marijuana, and after that, she just wasn’t the same,” he said. Despite medication and hospitalization, Kayla continued to struggle, often carrying a knife and exhibiting erratic behavior that concerned those around her.
Jackson’s daughter, Chaasadahyah, also observed Kayla’s decline, describing seeing her recently walking aimlessly through the neighborhood, seemingly detached from her surroundings.
The incident marks a second violent tragedy in the same building at 386 Second Street within two years. In January 2024, a murder-suicide occurred when Jason Jackson shot his partner before taking his own life. Some neighbors, like Christine Doyle, have expressed a sense of foreboding about the building, referring to it as “cursed.”
Neighbors remember Bracero as a kind and well-spoken woman who had formed a close bond with the Jackson family, especially since she and Kayla had no other relatives nearby. “She loved my family,” Chaasadahyah said. “We went out for her birthday party; she was basically part of the family.”
The community remains stunned by the tragedy. Jackson reflected on the devastating loss, saying, “You never thought this would happen.
I broke down. I cried.
It hit hard. It hit really hard.”
