Active Shooter at Canadian Health Clinic Sparks Fear and Urgent Police Search

Additional Coverage:

Canadian authorities are actively searching for a suspect involved in a shooting at a medical clinic in Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan. The RCMP issued an urgent alert Monday afternoon, advising residents to seek safety and secure their homes.

The alert described the suspect as a male dressed entirely in black with a face covering and warned that the individual was still at large and on foot within the community.

According to local reports, several people were shot during the incident. Pelican Narrows is a remote community located approximately 230 miles northeast of Prince Albert.

This shooting follows a recent call for assistance from Pelican Narrows leaders, who have expressed grave concerns about escalating violence in their community. The area has been shaken by two recent homicides, including the May 21 shooting death of 26-year-old Jaden Custer. Earlier in May, authorities also discovered the remains of 16-year-old Jay’siiah Webb-Long, who had been missing for over a year.

The current situation in Pelican Narrows echoes a series of tragic shootings in Canada over the past months. In February, a deadly rampage in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia-a small town of roughly 2,400 residents-resulted in 10 deaths and over 25 injuries.

The attack involved a shooting at the local secondary school and a related incident at a nearby home. Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, which serves grades 7 through 12, was the site where eight victims, including the suspect, lost their lives.

These recent violent events have prompted the Canadian government to strengthen gun control laws, including an expanded ban on firearms classified as assault weapons. The February shootings marked Canada’s deadliest such incident since the 2020 Nova Scotia attacks, which resulted in 22 fatalities.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement urges residents of Pelican Narrows to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
