Savannah Guthries Surprise Run Turns Al Rokers Weather Segment into a Laugh Fest

Additional Coverage:

During the June 1 broadcast of the TODAY Show, viewers were treated to a lighthearted moment when Savannah Guthrie playfully disrupted Al Roker’s weather segment, much to fans’ delight.

As Al, 71, began his weather update, he mentioned “what’s happening in the country” before being cheekily interrupted by Savannah, 54, and actress Tina Fey, 56, who dashed across the set hand in hand. Savannah apologized mid-run with a quick “Sorry!

Just coming through,” leaving Al visibly surprised and momentarily thrown off his flow. Despite the interruption, Al managed to continue his segment, adjusting his phrasing to “what’s happening in your neck of the woods” as the U.S. weather graphic appeared.

Fans took to social media to express their enjoyment of Savannah’s playful side, especially during a challenging time for her personally. Since February, Savannah’s mother, Nancy, 84, has been missing, with no major updates in the case as it recently marked the four-month mark.

Nancy was last seen on January 31 after visiting her daughter Annie’s home for dinner, and authorities have since indicated she may have been taken against her will. No suspects have been identified so far.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who is leading the investigation, told PEOPLE in May that progress is being made, though the case has drawn criticism over its handling, including remarks from FBI Director Kash Patel, who suggested federal involvement should have come sooner.

Savannah took a leave from the TODAY Show following her mother’s disappearance but returned to the program on April 6. The recent on-air prank was a welcome reminder of her warmth and humor, resonating with viewers who expressed support and joy at seeing her lighthearted moments amid ongoing personal challenges.
