PlayStation Unveils New God of War Title and Showcases Wolverine Game at State of Play
On June 3, PlayStation revealed exciting updates during its latest State of Play presentation, spotlighting a fresh installment in the God of War franchise alongside an extended look at the highly anticipated Wolverine game.
The highlight was the debut trailer for God of War: Laufey, which surprised fans by bringing back Faye, also known as Laufey, the late wife of series protagonist Kratos. Portrayed by actress Deborah Ann Woll, Faye awakens in the Everywhen-a mystical afterlife realm for gods-following the events of the 2018 game. Soon after, she is captured but manages to break free with the assistance of a cosmic cube named Phranque (voiced by Jack Quaid) and an enchanted ribbon connected to a powerful sword called Rue (voiced by Perlina Lau).
This new adventure follows Faye as she battles through the afterlife, wielding a sword in combat that promises the fast-paced, intense action God of War fans have come to expect. While no release date has been announced for God of War: Laufey, the trailer offers a compelling glimpse into the game’s narrative and mechanics.
In addition, PlayStation opened the event with an extended trailer for Wolverine, developed by Insomniac Games. This mature, action-packed title centers on the iconic Marvel hero’s mission to rescue young mutants from dangerous experiments.
Wolverine faces off against the cybernetically enhanced Reavers, slicing through enemies with his signature claws. The gameplay also features appearances from fellow X-Men member Jean Grey, who uses her psychic abilities to assist in combat.
Wolverine is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, promising a gritty and immersive experience for fans of the Marvel universe.
Both trailers showcase PlayStation’s commitment to delivering high-quality, narrative-driven games that engage players with rich storytelling and dynamic gameplay.
