Additional Coverage:
Ford has announced a recall affecting nearly 420,000 vehicles due to a potentially hazardous seat belt defect. The recall covers certain 2018 to 2022 model year Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs.
According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem stems from seat belts that may lock up unexpectedly, preventing proper extension or retraction. This malfunction could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Additionally, some belts may retract too quickly, posing another safety concern.
This latest recall broadens and replaces two earlier recalls issued by NHTSA. Ford has reported two warranty claims and two field reports tied to this issue, along with one confirmed injury.
Affected vehicle owners will be notified by mail and can visit any authorized Ford or Lincoln dealership to have their front seat belt retractors inspected. If necessary, the faulty components will be replaced free of charge to ensure driver and passenger safety.
