Authorities in Doral, South Florida, have identified four victims in a tragic incident believed to be a murder-suicide. Melanie Hyer, 46, a well-known real estate agent, her two daughters, Savannah, 11, and Sienna, 8, along with their father, Ryan Charles Whiten, 42, were found deceased inside their home in the Doral Isles neighborhood.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office discovered the family during a welfare check on Tuesday night. Officials reported all four suffered stab wounds. Hyer was recognized in the community for her expertise in probate real estate and frequently appeared in media interviews sharing market insights.

Investigators from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau are treating the case as a potential murder-suicide. They continue to work closely with the Medical Examiner’s Office as the investigation remains active.

According to sources familiar with the case, Hyer and Whiten had been separated for several years but were co-parenting their daughters. Court records indicate Hyer was married to another man until March of this year, and Whiten had also remarried, though that marriage ended. Whiten’s last known residence was in the same neighborhood where the incident occurred.

Whiten’s ex-wife, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the relationship between Hyer and Whiten as “toxic” and marked by ongoing conflict over custody of the children. She expressed shock at the news, recalling Whiten as a devoted and loving father. She noted that Whiten had feared losing custody of his daughters and had reached out to her just weeks before the tragedy in what she believes was a farewell message.

The local community has been deeply affected by the loss. Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez, who knew Hyer and her children personally, expressed his sorrow, highlighting her active involvement in the school and community. “She was a light of sunshine and was always eager to help at school and to be involved as a mom,” he said.

Friends also remembered Hyer fondly. Willard Shepard, who first met her 20 years ago when she served as his realtor, described her as outgoing, friendly, and meticulous in her work. “It’s just heartbreaking that this entire family is physically not with us anymore,” he shared.

The daughters attended Downtown Doral Charter Schools, which released a statement mourning their loss. The school is providing grief counseling and support services for students and staff, urging parents to maintain open communication with their children during this difficult time.

This heartbreaking event has left the Doral community grappling with grief as they remember the family and seek answers in the ongoing investigation.
