- Federal agents arrest anti-ICE agitators during chaotic Delaney Hall confrontations caught on video (foxnews.com)
Video footage captured the arrest of at least two anti-ICE protesters outside Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday evening amid intense confrontations. The incident unfolded as a caravan of vehicles attempted to exit the immigrant detention center, with demonstrators blocking their path.
The situation turned chaotic as some cars pushed through the crowd, striking at least one individual, while protesters continued to bang on and obstruct government vehicles. Voices from the crowd included taunts such as “Let’s go coward,” “F— you,” and “Quit your f—— job.”
At one point, an ICE agent confronted a protester, asking, “What did you say? You’re going to kill me?”
before detaining the individual.
ICE agents worked to disperse the crowd and remove barricades to allow vehicle passage. Video evidence showed authorities detaining at least two people, and witnesses reported the use of pepper spray during the altercation.
This unrest followed Newark Mayor Ras Baraka’s announcement on Thursday that law enforcement resources would be withdrawn from outside Delaney Hall starting Friday. In a statement, Baraka criticized ICE for escalating tensions and emphasized that securing the privately operated facility is the responsibility of its private security, not the city police. He stressed that Newark police would no longer allocate resources or place officers at risk protecting the site, citing commitments to fairness, restraint, and human rights.
Mayor Baraka has a history of activism at the detention center. In May 2025, he was arrested for allegedly trespassing during a protest at Delaney Hall alongside several New Jersey lawmakers.
Baraka was detained for five hours and charged, though the trespassing charge was later dismissed by the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Despite the arrest, he was reelected last month with over 50% of the vote.
At the time of reporting, the Department of Homeland Security had not responded to requests for comment on the latest incident.
