A festive opening day at Hersheypark took a chaotic turn when a large-scale brawl erupted, involving over 50 youths and teens. The incident, which occurred on April 3 during the park’s 120th season kickoff, prompted charges against 55 individuals, including 53 minors, according to the Derry Township Police Department.
The altercation involved two groups of teenagers, aged 12 to 19, who were seen arguing before the situation escalated into a physical fight near the Trailblazer roller coaster around 6:51 p.m., roughly an hour before the park’s closing. Despite police and park security efforts to separate the groups, clashes resumed in the food court area, forcing families to seek shelter and protect their children amid the turmoil.
Eyewitnesses estimated that between 50 and 60 teenagers were engaged in the violent confrontation. A social media video captured the intensity of the fight, showing teens exchanging punches and kicks on the pavement while bystanders recorded the scene. The disruption led to the temporary shutdown of the Skyrush roller coaster, with park officials citing significant inconvenience caused to staff and visitors.
Some participants were removed from the park through a side exit but managed to re-enter via the main gate, where another fight broke out around 7:30 p.m. Authorities have since filed numerous charges related to disorderly and assaultive conduct, including simple assault, conspiracy, theft, failure to disperse, aggravated assault, and riot.
Among those charged are three adults from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania: 19-year-old Omar Ibrahim, and 18-year-olds Jerome Ross III and Quaneek Williams. Williams faces felony riot and assault charges, while Ibrahim and Ross are charged with theft for allegedly using a minor’s admission wristband to gain entry to the park. The value of the stolen wristband was noted as $90.80, equivalent to a single-day park pass.
The three adults were issued summonses and had not been arrested as of Tuesday evening. Their initial court appearances are scheduled for July 7. Authorities continue to investigate the incident as the community reflects on the disruption at a venue meant for family enjoyment.
