On Friday morning, Facebook and Messenger experienced a brief outage that left many users unexpectedly logged out and unable to access their accounts. Frustrated users turned to platforms like X and Reddit to determine if the issue was widespread or isolated to their own profiles.
According to Downdetector, the surge in reports began around 9:52 a.m. ET. Meta’s Vice President of Communications, Andy Stone, acknowledged the problem on X shortly thereafter, assuring users that the company was actively working to resolve the issue.
“We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it,” Stone tweeted.
By 9:46 a.m. ET, Downdetector recorded over 123,000 complaints related to Facebook and more than 8,000 concerning Instagram. Messenger users also reported being logged out, indicating the disruption affected multiple Meta platforms.
While Instagram showed clear signs of the outage, reports for Threads were less definitive. Live outage trackers continued to register new complaints at the time of this report, suggesting that users should avoid repeated password resets and wait patiently for the services to return to normal.
