Jelly Roll Opens Up About Struggles Before Divorce and Tour Backlash

Additional Coverage:

Country singer Jelly Roll recently opened up about personal struggles that preceded his divorce from influencer Bunnie Xo. The couple, who had been married for nearly ten years, finalized their split in May, citing irreconcilable differences, with their separation date recorded as May 9 in Williamson County, Tennessee.

The news came as a surprise to fans, especially since the pair appeared together at the 2026 Grammy Awards earlier this year, where Jelly Roll dedicated his Best Contemporary Country Album win to Bunnie. The couple had also renewed their vows in 2023. In the months leading up to their separation, Jelly Roll suffered a broken collarbone, which temporarily stalled his highly publicized weight loss and self-improvement journey.

Jelly Roll candidly admitted, “I have, to some degree, lost my way,” revealing that he was still 40 to 60 pounds away from his weight loss goal after his injury. Bunnie Xo shared that he was deeply affected by online harassment about his weight, an issue Jelly Roll highlighted after recounting a disturbing incident on stage during a concert.

Once weighing 540 pounds, Jelly Roll has impressively reduced his weight to around 265 pounds, though he acknowledges this falls short of his ultimate goal. He aspires to grace the cover of major magazines like GQ, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Forbes, or TIME-shirtless-to showcase his transformation.

Amid these personal challenges, Jelly Roll faced public scrutiny related to his participation in the Rock the Country tour. The nationwide tour, which celebrates American community and tradition, has faced controversy for its perceived association with MAGA politics due to the involvement of artists like Kid Rock and Jason Aldean, both known for their political stances. Jelly Roll will skip the Sioux Falls, South Dakota date, with rock band Staind stepping in for that show.

Although Jelly Roll has described himself humorously as a “dumb redneck” and expressed reluctance to comment on political matters, a photo of him with former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recently surfaced, with Noem praising his “incredible” heart on Instagram. The Rock the Country tour also includes notable acts such as Blake Shelton, Brooks and Dunn, Miranda Lambert, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Notably, rock band Shinedown and rapper Ludacris withdrew from the event, citing concerns over division and lineup confusion, respectively. Meanwhile, organizers have reduced ticket prices by up to 50% for select smaller venues, responding to rising fuel costs and encouraging fans to attend this summer.

As Jelly Roll navigates both personal and professional hurdles, fans remain attentive to his journey of transformation and resilience.
