- Manhunt underway for Kansas City shooting spree suspect near World Cup venue; FBI offering $25K reward (foxnews.com)
A coordinated manhunt is currently underway for Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, a 22-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a series of violent incidents spanning Kansas and Missouri. The FBI’s Kansas City field office has announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction.
Sanchez-Munoz is described as a White and Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing around 184 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo on his right forearm. Authorities warn that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
The investigation began after Sanchez-Munoz allegedly fired at a vehicle on June 11 in Wyandotte County, Kansas. A state warrant was issued for his arrest on Tuesday, including charges of criminal discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault, the latter carrying a $100,000 bond.
Kansas City Police believe Sanchez-Munoz is also the primary suspect in five shootings that took place Tuesday night along Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Missouri, near Arrowhead Stadium, a venue hosting several FIFA World Cup matches. These shootings resulted in one fatality, one person seriously injured, and others, including an Uber driver transporting fans to the Argentina vs. Algeria match, wounded but expected to recover.
The violence led to a tense overnight standoff at a residence in Independence, Missouri. The standoff ended with the house catching fire.
After firefighters declared the scene safe Wednesday morning, investigators, supported by K-9 units and Missouri State Fire Marshals, conducted a thorough search but did not locate Sanchez-Munoz. Authorities did recover a vehicle believed to be connected to the shootings.
No motive has been disclosed at this time. Law enforcement agencies are urging anyone who sees Sanchez-Munoz or has information about his whereabouts to call 911 immediately. Tips can also be submitted to local crime stoppers or FBI offices to aid in the ongoing search.
