Illinois Man Caught After 14 Years for Killing Bride in Wedding Dress

Additional Coverage:

After 14 years on the run, the FBI has captured Arnolodo Jimenez, 44, who is charged with the 2012 first-degree murder of his wife, Estrella Carrera.

Carrera, just 26 years old, was found dead in the bathtub of her Burbank, Illinois apartment only two days after the couple’s civil wedding ceremony at Chicago City Hall on May 11, 2012. She was still wearing her wedding reception dress when officers arrived.

Authorities say Jimenez contacted several friends on May 13, 2012, admitting to a physical altercation with Carrera. Concerned when she failed to pick up her children, Carrera’s family requested a welfare check. Burbank police discovered her with multiple stab wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Evidence at the scene-including Carrera’s blood, broken jewelry, and shattered glass-suggests she was initially attacked inside a vehicle before her body was moved to the bathroom. Investigators also found a Maserati registered to Jimenez at his brother’s Chicago home. Phone data showed Jimenez had left the Chicago area, with a signal ping in Texas on the night of the murder.

The FBI’s Chicago office reported that Jimenez fled to Mexico, where he remained hidden until his arrest on January 30, 2025, by Mexico’s Fiscalía General de la República in coordination with Interpol. On June 18, Jimenez was brought back to the United States, arriving at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

He is currently in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Before his capture, Jimenez was listed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives.
