ICE Shooting in Maine Leaves One Dead at Biddeford Intersection

Additional Coverage:

A fatal shooting involving Immigration Enforcement officers occurred Monday morning in Biddeford, Maine, resulting in one person’s death, according to Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau.

The incident took place at the intersection of Pool Street and Hill Street. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, and few details are currently available.

When contacted, the Biddeford Police Department referred inquiries to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In a Facebook statement, Speaker Fecteau confirmed the fatality, noting that state police and the Department of Public Safety are on the scene, and the FBI is expected to join the investigation.

“A person was killed. ICE was involved.

State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well,” Fecteau wrote. “These are the details that I have at this time.

I will provide further updates, as they are relayed to me.”

Local news footage showed the area around the intersection cordoned off, with Biddeford police assuring the public that there is no ongoing threat.

This incident follows closely on the heels of another fatal encounter involving immigration enforcement, where a Mexican immigrant, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was shot by an agent during a traffic stop in Houston last week. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Salgado Araujo attempted to use his van as a weapon, prompting the agent to open fire.

On social media platform X, users drew comparisons between the Maine and Houston incidents, while many noted that such violent events are unusual for Biddeford, a small coastal city known for its low crime rates.
