Randy Quaid to Make Rare Public Appearance as Parade Grand Marshal in Ocean City

Additional Coverage:

Dennis Quaid is widely recognized as an accomplished A-list actor, known for popular films like The Parent Trap and The Day After Tomorrow, as well as his work in indie TV series such as Fortitude.

His brother, Randy Quaid, however, has followed a far more unconventional path both on and off the screen.

In the 1990s, Randy gained cult status with memorable roles in comedies like Kingpin, where he portrayed the endearing but hapless Ishmael Boorg alongside Bill Murray and Woody Harrelson. In recent years, Randy has been somewhat elusive, with reports of legal troubles and his claims of being pursued by Hollywood “Star Whackers” as he and his wife sought asylum in Canada.

Now, Randy Quaid is stepping back into the public eye for a very different reason. He is set to serve as grand marshal for Ocean City, Maryland’s annual Night in Venice parade, a festive event held in late July.

Before his Kingpin fame, Randy had already made a name for himself with a 1973 Oscar nomination for The Last Detail. But he remains best known to many as Cousin Eddie from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation-a role that makes him a natural fit for this year’s parade.

The celebration kicks off on July 25, 2026, following a special noon screening of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Fans have the option to purchase VIP packages for meet-and-greets and signed memorabilia, while a live Q&A session with Randy will be available at no additional cost.

Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian expressed enthusiasm about the event: “Night in Venice is one of Ocean City’s signature traditions, and we’re thrilled to welcome Randy Quaid to help us celebrate this year’s unique theme.” He added, “His iconic role in one of America’s favorite holiday movies makes him the perfect grand marshal for a celebration that combines patriotism, Christmas spirit, and one of the country’s most spectacular boat parades.”
