Slipknot, the iconic nine-member metal outfit known for their intense performances and signature masked personas, are gearing up for a creative resurgence. Despite their Grammy win, the band remains unapologetically focused on delivering the heavy, aggressive sound that earned them a devoted fanbase over the past two decades.
Guitarist Jim Root, also known as #4, revealed that the band is revisiting the core elements of their earlier music while experimenting with fresh ideas. Following mixed reactions to their recent albums We Are Not Your Kind and The End, So Far, which featured more subdued and experimental tones, Slipknot is aiming to reconnect with the ferocity that originally defined them.
With the addition of new drummer Eloy Casagrande, formerly of Sepultura, the band’s dynamic has been revitalized. Root praised Casagrande’s passion and skill, describing him as a dream collaborator who “lives, eats and breathes his drums.” This new chemistry has sparked an exceptionally productive songwriting phase, with the band reportedly working on at least 50 new arrangements.
Root noted that some of the upcoming tracks “sound like nothing I’ve ever heard before,” hinting at a blend of blistering riffs and unexpected influences. While fans eagerly anticipate a return to the relentless energy of their 1999 debut, Slipknot promises to maintain their tradition of surprising listeners. Root even suggested the next album might incorporate elements reminiscent of Pink Floyd, underscoring the band’s commitment to pushing creative boundaries.
As Slipknot members enter their 50s, they appear poised to balance maturity with intensity, delivering a fresh yet familiar experience to their long-time followers-known affectionately as “maggots.” The forthcoming record promises to be a compelling chapter in the band’s evolving legacy.
