Before becoming one of Hollywood’s most admired couples, Nick Jonas had an unusual request for Priyanka Chopra early in their relationship.
On the July 14 episode of the Hey Jonas! podcast, Chopra, 43, reflected on the beginning of their romance, revealing that Jonas wanted to make sure he was really communicating with her before things progressed.
“He wanted to corroborate it was actually me,” Chopra shared. “So he asked me for a photo in that moment, looking into the camera with a time stamp, by the way.”
She found the request amusing at first. “I was like, ‘This guy’s so sus of me already,'” she laughed. “But I appreciated it too.”
Jonas, 33, explained that their connection started after he noticed Chopra’s face on a billboard for Quantico. Encouraged by his brother Kevin, he sent her a direct message on X (formerly Twitter).
“We started texting,” Jonas said. “And then it wasn’t until about a year and a half later that we started dating. And then eventually got engaged.”
When they finally went on their first date, Jonas kept things low-key. In a March appearance on the Therapuss podcast, he revealed that he invited Chopra to a group outing to see Beauty and the Beast at the Hollywood Bowl, aiming to reduce pressure.
“I was like, ‘But let’s bring some friends so there’s less pressure,'” Jonas explained. “So it was like a group hang in case it wasn’t the vibe.”
Their approach clearly worked. The couple married in December 2018 after a whirlwind romance and welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, via surrogate in 2022.
