After a 22-year hiatus, the nu metal band Skrape is making a comeback-this time under a new name: Skrapegoat.
Skrape, known for their two studio albums released through RCA Records, disbanded in 2004 shortly after their final album, Up the Dose. Now, frontman Billy Keeton has revived the project, unveiling the rebranded band on Instagram and promising fresh music for longtime fans.
The announcement signals a fresh start with an entirely new lineup, blending new compositions with some of the band’s classic material. Keeton’s unmistakable voice remains the centerpiece, and fans have responded with enthusiasm to the news. In the band’s Instagram post, they acknowledged the strong fan support and the clear desire for the project to continue despite earlier setbacks.
Those setbacks came in the form of legal disputes over the original Skrape name and trademark rights, which delayed the revival. According to the band’s statement, negotiations with former members led to a standstill, prompting the decision to proceed under the new moniker, Skrapegoat, rather than risk further delays.
So far, Keeton is the only confirmed member of Skrapegoat, but the frontman expressed gratitude for the positive fan response that encouraged him to move forward. “The response reminded me how much these songs still mean to people, and that meant everything to me,” he shared.
“When certain people wanted to take the focus away from the music, we had a choice: look backward or build something new. We chose to keep moving forward, and I’m more excited about SKRAPEGOAT now than ever.”
Skrape originally formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1997, with Keeton and drummer Will Hunt-who later joined Evanescence-as core members. The band’s debut album, New Killer America, and follow-up, Up the Dose, helped establish their presence in the nu metal scene before their 2004 breakup.
With this fresh start, Skrapegoat aims to bring both new energy and the spirit of their earlier work to fans old and new as they embark on this next chapter.
