Highlights include some of Elvis’s most recognizable ensembles: the shimmering gold lamé suit that became a symbol of his early fame, the sleek black leather outfit from his groundbreaking 1968 Comeback Special, and the final jumpsuit he wore on stage at his last concert in Indianapolis in 1977.
The book also features original sketches by Bill Belew, Elvis’s longtime costume designer, alongside rare archival photographs and fresh images that reveal the intricate craftsmanship behind each garment.
A particularly intriguing section focuses on Elvis’s “Dude Suits”-a series of white gabardine outfits that dominated his 1970s concert looks. Though similar at first glance, each suit was accented with a distinct color-black, blue, green, or red-and detailed with leather trims on pockets, buttons, pleats, and trousers. The capes, matching these accents, had coordinating linings; notably, the black-accented suit included a paisley-lined cape, setting it apart.
Interestingly, these suits originally didn’t come with matching belts. Elvis often customized his look by mixing and matching belts from other stage costumes, adding a unique flair to his performances.
