- ‘Highlander’ star Christopher Lambert leaves Pittsburgh fan convention early after health scare (nbcnews.com)
Christopher Lambert, best known for his role as the immortal Connor MacLeod in the cult classic “Highlander,” had to cut short his appearance at Pennsylvania’s largest comic convention this past weekend after reportedly collapsing at the event.
The 69-year-old actor left Steel City Con early on Saturday due to what organizers described as a “personal issue.” The convention announced on Facebook that Lambert’s photo session was canceled, and his return time remained uncertain.
TMZ later reported that Lambert experienced a sudden medical emergency, collapsing while signing autographs. According to his representative, the incident was caused by a drop in blood sugar levels, as he had not eaten much that day.
Steel City Con, held in the Pittsburgh area from Friday through Sunday, had initially posted photos of Lambert meeting fans and signing posters celebrating his iconic “Highlander” character. While the convention first indicated Lambert might return on Sunday for additional autographs and a delayed photo opportunity-though not his scheduled panel-he ultimately did not attend.
“Christopher Lambert is unable to come today,” the convention shared on Facebook, adding that he sends his regrets. Fans responded with messages wishing him a speedy recovery and emphasizing the importance of his health.
Requests for further comments from Steel City Con and Lambert’s representatives were not immediately answered.
Christopher Lambert’s career highlights include starring as Tarzan in the 1984 film “Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes,” portraying the god Raiden in the 1995 “Mortal Kombat” movie, and playing Methodius in 2011’s “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.” Last year, he faced some backlash after abruptly canceling an appearance at Sweden’s SciFi World convention.
Despite the recent health scare, Lambert is scheduled to attend upcoming conventions, including Fan Expo in Chicago next weekend and Mad Monster Expo in North Carolina the following weekend.
