Christy Knowings, the talented actor best known for her role on Nickelodeon’s popular sketch comedy series “All That,” has passed away at the age of 46.
According to her father, Charles Dunn, Knowings died on Tuesday in Long Beach following a severe asthma attack on August 7 that led to cardiac arrest. She had been on life support for several days prior to her passing.
Knowings first joined “All That” in 1997 as a teenager eager to break into the entertainment industry. Her ability to perform a wide array of characters and accents, skills she had been developing since childhood, quickly caught the attention of casting directors. Reflecting on the moment she was invited to join the show, she once shared, “Five minutes later, I was asked if I wanted to move to California.”
During her time on “All That,” Knowings was part of an iconic ensemble cast that included Kenan Thompson, Amanda Bynes, Kel Mitchell, Nick Cannon, and Gabriel Iglesias. She remained with the show for three seasons before departing in 2000. Later, she made appearances on “Sesame Street,” featuring in several twin-themed sketches alongside her brother, Chris Knowings.
“Sesame Street” paid tribute to Christy on social media, expressing condolences to her family and acknowledging her contributions alongside her brother on the show.
Born in the Bronx on February 25, 1980, Christy Lorraine Knowings attended Manhattan’s Professional Performing Arts School, where she refined her talents as a character actor. She often spoke about her passion for creating new characters and bringing unique accents to life, which helped her stand out even in minor roles.
In a 2019 interview marking the 25th anniversary of “All That,” Knowings reflected on the show’s groundbreaking diversity and cultural impact. As a Native American Afro-Latina, she recognized the importance of representation, especially for young Black viewers who saw themselves reflected in her presence on the show.
Her former castmates shared heartfelt tributes following her passing. Kenan Thompson, now a star on “Saturday Night Live,” described her as “one of the funniest people out here” and sent love to her family. Alisa Reyes remembered Christy as a “star seed” and “true uplifter of humanity,” while Lisa Foiles recalled her as a comedic icon whose kindness matched her immense talent.
Christy Knowings is survived by her father, twin brother Chris, mother Rénee Knowings Dunn, and several siblings.
Her passing is deeply mourned by fans and colleagues alike, who remember her as a gifted performer and beloved friend.
