On Wednesday morning, Billy Ray shared a nostalgic photo on Instagram featuring himself, Miley, and her brother Braison. He wrote, “Family means more than ever now.
I always called my little girl Miley. Just…Miley.
Just like I always called my little boy Braison.” He also revealed a piece of his own history: before his breakout hit “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992, he went simply by “CYRUS,” sporting merchandise with that single name alongside a POW MIA flag and the phrase “You are not forgotten.”
Billy Ray expressed pride in Miley’s decision, comparing her evolution to iconic artists who are known by one name, including Dolly Parton, Cher, Elvis Presley, and Prince. “It’s a natural progression for an iconic superstar legend,” he said.
The reaction among fans has been mixed. Some critics questioned the comparison, with one commenter stating, “Sorry sir, but Miley will never be close to being a legend like Dolly or Cher,” while another asked, “I always know her by Miley Cyrus, why change now?”
