- Fox News host suffers embarrassing blunder as she names ‘fired’ anchor Maria Bartiromo (themirror.com)
Just one day after Maria Bartiromo’s surprising departure from Fox News, a live on-air slip-up by her co-host brought her name back into the spotlight.
On the morning broadcast of September 4, Cheryl Casone was delivering the U.S. job report for August when she mistakenly said, “We’ve got the breaking data on deck in the next hour, you’re watching Mornings with Maria.” She quickly corrected herself, adding, “Fox Business,” but the moment did not go unnoticed.
This unexpected mention came just after news broke that Bartiromo was fired from Fox News following a 12-year tenure. Reports suggest tension behind the scenes, including claims that other Fox hosts were instructed not to speak with her after she allegedly leaked texts to the White House.
The firing reportedly stemmed from Bartiromo sharing internal company communications regarding a policy that urged staff to avoid spreading former President Trump’s false election claims, which allegedly breached her contract and the network’s trust. Fox News has not publicly detailed the reasons for her exit.
Viewers took to social media to react to Casone’s on-air slip. Comments ranged from sympathy-“Gone but not forgotten”-to sharp critiques of Fox’s handling of Bartiromo’s departure, with one user noting, “Trump didn’t save her. Fox dumped her in a 2-sentence press release and now Cheryl Casone is accidentally saying her name on air like a ghost.”
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump expressed his support for Bartiromo on Truth Social, praising her professionalism and lamenting the loss of her shows. “Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior,” he wrote.
“Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy. God bless you, Maria!”
At the time of her exit, Bartiromo was hosting multiple programs, including Mornings with Maria and Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street on Fox Business, as well as Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News. Her departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the veteran journalist and the network.
