An Amazon Prime Air cargo plane overshot the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, leading to a fiery crash that caused multiple injuries, officials reported.
The Boeing 767, which had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, failed to stop on the runway and collided with several vehicles before bursting into flames. Video footage from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing from the aircraft.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed that firefighters were actively working to extinguish the fire and provide medical assistance to those injured. Radio transmissions indicated that at least one person was trapped following the collision with a truck.
An Amazon spokesperson identified the aircraft as operated by 21 Air and described the incident as a “fast-moving situation” with details still being gathered. Amazon is coordinating closely with local authorities to understand the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The flight departed Puerto Rico around noon and was scheduled to land in Miami near 2 p.m., according to flight tracking data. Following the crash, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced a full ground stop at Miami International as emergency responders conducted their assessment.
The plane remained disabled at the northwest end of the airport as investigations continue.
