“South Park” Creators Satirize Trump’s Renaming of Lake Ontario as “Lake America”
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the minds behind the long-running animated series “South Park,” took aim at President Donald Trump’s recent executive order renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America.” In a tongue-in-cheek statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday, the creators extended their mockery to Apple Maps and Google Maps for complying with the change.
“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount – a Skydance Capitulation,” the statement read, blending satire with a jab at the corporate merger behind the show’s distribution.
The satire comes on the heels of “South Park” winning an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for its 27th season premiere, which featured a bold portrayal of Trump entangled in controversy involving Jeffrey Epstein. That episode also lampooned Trump’s $1.5 billion streaming deal with CBS and Paramount Global, highlighting the show’s characteristic irreverence toward political and corporate power.
Last month, Trump signed the order to rename Lake Ontario, which straddles the U.S.-Canada border, amid escalating tensions over trade agreements between the two nations. The administration emphasized the United States’ role in safeguarding the Great Lakes’ waterways, claiming the renaming was a reflection of American stewardship.
Following the order, both Apple Maps and Google Maps updated their platforms to reflect the new “Lake America” designation for users in the U.S., while Canadian users continue to see “Lake Ontario.” International users are shown both names. Similar adjustments were previously made when Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” earlier in 2025.
