Shortly after finishing high school, actors Alvina August and Nathan Witte each made bold choices to follow their passions and pursue careers in acting. For August, this meant a complete shift from her initial plan to attend medical school, while Witte found inspiration in the idea that acting would let him explore a variety of professions through different roles.
Their recent experience filming Hallmark’s romantic comedy Falling Into Place reaffirmed that both are exactly where they’re meant to be. Reflecting on the shoot, August shared that the entire cast and crew experienced a series of meaningful, almost serendipitous moments that felt like powerful confirmations of their paths.
Falling Into Place embraces a beloved Hallmark storyline: a driven woman from the big city returns to her small hometown and reconnects with an old flame. In this film, Kaia, a career-focused woman, reunites with her high school best friend James during their town’s annual Fall Festival.
Together, they revisit a childhood bucket list, prompting reflections on their past choices and future aspirations. The screenplay, penned by longtime Hallmark writer Ansley Gordon, struck a personal chord with both leads.
August noted how art seemed to imitate life, with many parts of the script resonating deeply with her own experiences. One remarkable coincidence was that her character’s name, Kaia, is the same as her three-year-old daughter’s-a fact unknown to anyone on set.
Both actors also emphasized the importance of clarity in life’s direction, a theme that surfaced during their work with director Angie Nolan. Nolan’s intention to cultivate an environment filled with joy manifested naturally on set, reinforcing the power of setting clear intentions.
Witte recalled how, after high school, he struggled to decide on a career path. Faced with uncertainty, he set a personal ultimatum: if he hadn’t figured things out by age 25, he would join the army-something he wasn’t eager to do.
Acting came into his life unexpectedly when he spotted an advertisement for acting and modeling classes in Calgary. Although initially skeptical, he trusted his instincts and moved to Vancouver, known as “Hollywood North,” where he has built a successful career spanning over two decades, including appearances in more than 20 Hallmark films.
For August, the journey was one of self-discovery. Despite initially planning to pursue medicine, she was surprised to realize she was drawn to the arts-a fact others recognized before she did. Voted “Most Likely to Be Popular” by her classmates, a title that once puzzled her, she now understands it may have been an early acknowledgment of her talents beyond science.
Having appeared in several Hallmark productions herself, including 2022’s A Second Chance at Love, August hopes Falling Into Place will inspire audiences as much as it did her and Witte.
Falling Into Place premieres Saturday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET on Hallmark, with streaming available the next day on Hallmark+.
