James Wehr, a prominent car influencer and founder of the world’s largest weekly car show, tragically lost his life in a devastating car accident in Irvine, California, early Saturday morning. The 27-year-old, known for South OC Cars and Coffee, was driving a 2019 McLaren when the vehicle collided with a tree, splitting in two and igniting in flames.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. at the intersection of Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue. Authorities confirmed that both Wehr and an unidentified passenger died at the scene.
According to police reports, the McLaren had been stopped at a red light before accelerating northbound once the light turned green. Traveling at high speed, the driver lost control, struck a curb, and then slammed into the tree with such force that the car was split and caught fire.
Just an hour prior to the accident, Wehr shared what would be his final social media post-an image seemingly showing him being pulled over by police in Newport Beach. The incident remains under investigation.
In the wake of the tragedy, heartfelt tributes have poured in from Wehr’s loved ones. His wife shared an emotional message alongside photos of the couple, saying, “James, I never thought the day would come that I’d have to say such a final goodbye.
Getting the opportunity to love you will always be the greatest blessing in my life. You’re smart, kind, funny, loving, and genuinely one of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.”
Wehr’s mother, Sarah, also expressed her grief, recalling the moment he was born in Perth, Australia, on August 17, 1999. “It’s too soon.
We brought you into this world at 2:36 a.m. and watched you grow into the magnificent man you are,” she wrote. She added that his love for family and friends was unparalleled.
Additionally, his sister described him as “the best brother I could have asked for.”
The community mourns the loss of a young man whose passion for cars and dedication to his fans made a lasting impact. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
