Katie Rosier Marks Four Years of Sobriety After Battling Alcoholism Since Childhood

Katie Rosier, 48, recently celebrated four years of sobriety following a long and difficult journey with alcohol addiction that began when she was just 12 years old. After decades of daily drinking, multiple legal troubles, and serious health challenges, Rosier has reclaimed her life with the help of rehabilitation and ongoing medical treatment.

Rosier’s introduction to alcohol came early in life, growing up as her father’s drinking companion after the loss of her mother. What started with beer and wine soon escalated to hard liquor during her teenage years, leading to difficulties in school and behavioral issues. Despite these struggles, she managed to attend college while working, though her alcohol consumption intensified, resulting in three DUIs by age 26 and two stints in jail.

Even as an adult pursuing a professional career, Rosier found it impossible to control her drinking. She earned an MBA and secured a procurement job in 2017, but her dependency continued to interfere with her work and health. A serious accident and subsequent diagnoses-including congestive heart failure-forced her to leave her job and eventually led to a period of homelessness.

In August 2022, after undergoing stent surgery and reflecting on the toll her addiction had taken-including surviving five strokes-Rosier reached a pivotal moment. Holding a glass of bourbon, she realized she had to choose sobriety or face fatal consequences. She contacted several rehabilitation centers and began treatment in September 2022.

The path to recovery included detoxification, psychiatric care, group counseling, and a monthly Vivitrol injection-a medication that helps reduce alcohol cravings by targeting brain pathways linked to addiction. Rosier describes the rapid loss of cravings after just a few days in treatment and credits this combination of support and medication for her sustained sobriety.

Today, Rosier enjoys a healthier lifestyle, including a renewed passion for pinball, which she plays competitively-even at bars where alcohol is served. She reports no temptation to drink despite being around alcohol and advocates for wider access to treatments like Vivitrol for those struggling with addiction.

Reflecting on her journey, Rosier hopes her story inspires others to seek help and emphasizes the importance of medical intervention in overcoming substance dependence. Her experience stands as a testament to resilience and the possibility of recovery, even after many years of hardship.
