- Dolly Parton’s family in ‘war’ over estimated $650 million fortune weeks after death (themirror.com)
Less than a month after the passing of country music icon Dolly Parton on August 25 at age 80, her family is already embroiled in a contentious dispute over her vast estate. The conflict began when Bryan Seaver, Dolly’s nephew and longtime head of her security detail, was abruptly removed from all roles connected to the singer’s properties.
According to reports, Bryan and his security firms were served termination notices on September 16, effective immediately. This development followed news that Dolly had traveled to Frankfurt, Germany, shortly before her death to receive an experimental cancer treatment that reportedly helped restore her strength.
Bryan, the son of Dolly’s sister Cassie Parton, had been a trusted figure within the family, having succeeded his father Larry Seaver in managing security for over two decades. He was also the person who publicly announced Dolly’s death, sharing with fans that she had “lived in the light” and was now “in the arms of Jesus.”
Following his dismissal, replacement security personnel were assigned to oversee Dolly’s key Nashville-area properties, including her primary residence, museum, downtown home, and warehouse.
In response, Bryan’s team expressed deep disappointment over the sudden and unexplained changes. They affirmed their commitment to honoring Dolly’s final wishes to protect her family and condemned what they described as actions taken in bad faith by those seeking to profit from her legacy.
Dolly’s longtime manager, Danny Nozell, along with Pinnacle Bank, which has been involved in managing her affairs, have not publicly commented on the situation.
The termination notice reportedly clarifies that Dolly’s assets and professional interests are held under the DP Dean Trust-named after Dolly and her late husband, Carl Dean. It also specifies that Bryan’s removal from his security duties does not affect any personal stake he may hold in the trust.
While the exact value of Dolly Parton’s fortune has never been officially disclosed, estimates from sources like Forbes have placed it between $450 million and $650 million. A significant portion of this wealth stems from her extensive songwriting catalog, which includes timeless hits such as “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You.” This collection alone has been valued at approximately $120 million.
Additionally, Dolly’s 50 percent ownership of Dollywood-a major Tennessee theme park-was valued at around $165 million, along with stakes in associated properties like Splash Country water park, DreamMore Resort, and HeartSong Lodge.
Beyond music and theme parks, her business empire spanned real estate, film and television projects, and various licensing deals. Her brand extended into diverse products, including cosmetics, wine, baking mixes, pet accessories, jewelry, and coffee, generating considerable income beyond her musical career.
Because the DP Dean Trust is private, details regarding the division of Dolly’s estate and the designated beneficiaries remain undisclosed, leaving the future distribution of her considerable assets uncertain amid ongoing family tensions.
