Mahershala Ali Expresses Frustration Over Canceled Marvel Blade Movie
Fans of Marvel’s Blade reboot have been left disappointed, but few feel the sting more deeply than Mahershala Ali, who was set to take on the iconic role. In a recent interview with GQ, Ali openly shared his confusion and frustration over the project’s cancellation.
When asked why the Blade film never materialized, Ali deferred the question to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. “That’s a Kevin Feige question,” he said.
“They had a two-time Oscar-winning actor under contract and billions of dollars at their disposal. To this day, I don’t know why it didn’t happen.”
Ali also echoed Feige’s own admission of regret. The Marvel chief previously called the failure to launch Blade “the biggest failure of his career” during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I agree with him one hundred percent,” Ali stated emphatically.
The actor revealed he invested significant time and effort preparing for the role. “I spent a year training,” Ali explained, describing how he pushed himself so hard he injured his knee.
He even relocated his family to Atlanta, ready to shoot when the time came. But the studio repeatedly delayed the project before the recent Hollywood strike further stalled progress.
“I’m still training. I’m learning sword work.
Name the martial art, I’m training in it,” Ali said. “We are there waiting to go.
And they just keep pushing it back.”
The Blade reboot’s cancellation remains a sore subject for Ali, who was clearly eager to bring the character to life on the big screen. As fans continue to hope for the project’s revival, Ali’s candid remarks shine a light on the challenges behind the scenes at Marvel Studios.
