Irish Police Make Major Drug Bust, Seize Over €2.3 Million in Narcotics and Cash
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Gardaí-the national police service of Ireland-have arrested four men following a series of coordinated raids across Kilkenny, Dublin, and other locations. The operation led to the seizure of cocaine, heroin, magic mushrooms, and over €34,000 in cash, with the total value of the drugs estimated at more than €2.3 million.
The intelligence-led initiative, carried out on Wednesday as part of Operation Tara-a nationwide effort targeting organized drug crime-involved the Garda National Drugs and Organized Crime Bureau collaborating closely with regional units from the Dublin Metropolitan, Northwestern, and Eastern regions.
According to Garda reports, officers confiscated cocaine valued at approximately €1.6 million, heroin (diamorphine) worth around €529,000, alongside a smaller amount of psilocin-containing magic mushrooms. In addition, several vehicles were seized in connection with the investigation.
Following the raids, four men ranging in age from their 20s to their 60s were taken into custody. Two of the suspects have since been charged with drug trafficking and money laundering offenses and have appeared before courts in Kilkenny and Dublin. The remaining two individuals remain detained as inquiries continue.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing as Gardaí work to dismantle the regional networks responsible for distributing these illicit substances.
